When A Thumbnail Does Not Match The Full Image

Thumbnails are small, heavily compressed previews, and platforms sometimes generate them from a cropped or resized version of the original file rather than the file itself. Occasionally a thumbnail shows something the full image, once actually opened, does not quite match, a different crop, a slightly different colour balance, or missing detail entirely.
This mismatch is usually mundane in origin, a caching quirk or a platform's own automatic resizing process, rather than evidence of any deliberate tampering. Still, it is worth opening the full image before drawing conclusions from a thumbnail alone, since previews are built specifically for loading speed rather than for accuracy or fidelity to the original.
Treat the full resolution file as the primary reference point and the thumbnail as only a rough pointer toward it. Any claim resting solely on what a thumbnail appears to show at a glance deserves a proper look at the complete image before it is accepted as accurate.
