Claims about what a law requires, permits or forbids are remarkably easy to state confidently and surprisingly easy to get wrong in practice, since legislation is often considerably more nuanced, exception laden and jurisdiction specific than any brief summary could ever hope to fully capture in a single sentence.
Checking the actual text of a law or regulation directly, usually available through an official government source somewhere online, rather than relying on a secondhand paraphrase from elsewhere, is the most reliable way to confirm what it actually says rather than what someone merely believes it says from memory.
Jurisdiction matters enormously in these situations too. A rule that applies clearly in one place may not apply at all elsewhere, so confirming which specific jurisdiction a claim about the law actually refers to is an essential first step to take before doing anything else at all with the claim in question.
