Satire sites publish deliberately exaggerated or entirely invented stories for comic effect, and most include some form of disclaimer somewhere, often within an About page or in small print, stating clearly that the content is not genuine news. These disclaimers are genuinely easy to miss once a single article is shared out of context.
Style offers additional useful clues too: absurdly specific detail, headlines pushed deliberately toward the implausible, and a tone that reads as performance rather than reporting once you actually notice it. None of these signs are absolute on their own, since satire styles vary considerably between different publications and writers.
Checking the source site directly, rather than judging a single screenshot in complete isolation, usually resolves the ambiguity fairly quickly. A quick search of the outlet's name alongside the word 'satire' clears up most genuine confusion within moments, before any misunderstanding spreads any further among unsuspecting readers.
