Practising The Pause Before Sharing
Launch library · evergreen read

The single most protective verification habit may well be the simplest one available: pausing before sharing anything that provokes a strong immediate reaction, whether outrage, excitement or genuine alarm. That emotional charge is often exactly what a piece of misleading content was carefully designed to produce in the reader.
Practise this deliberately by setting a firm personal rule for yourself, waiting a fixed short period of time, or completing one specific check, before sharing anything that hits emotionally quite hard. The pause itself does not need to be especially long at all to meaningfully change the eventual outcome of the decision made.
Over time this becomes considerably less of an effortful rule to remember and more of a natural reflex, the moment of heightened reaction itself gradually becoming the cue to slow down rather than the cue to act immediately without any real thought given to it at all beforehand.
