Verification is simply the ongoing, active process of carefully and patiently establishing whether a specific piece of information is genuinely accurate, using evidence, cross referencing and careful checking rather than relying on intuition, familiarity or simply the raw confidence with which a claim happens to be presented to the reader.
The overall process typically involves several of the specific techniques covered in careful detail throughout this library: checking a source's true origin, corroborating through genuinely independent means, examining any accompanying media closely, and weighing the overall credibility of what genuinely remains once all of these individual checks have been fully and properly completed.
Verification is rarely ever fully absolute. Most conclusions carry some remaining uncertainty, and treating verification as an ongoing habit of properly calibrated confidence, rather than a single definitive yes or no answer, reflects how the whole process actually tends to work in genuine, real world daily practice.
