Common Romance Scam Warning Signs

Romance scams typically move quickly toward intense declarations of affection, often well before any real world meeting has taken place, and lean heavily on flattering language that feels tailored specifically rather than generic. That speed, more than any single message on its own, is one of the more reliable early signals worth noticing.

A recurring pattern involves an emerging crisis, medical, travel, legal, that conveniently requires financial help and just as conveniently cannot be resolved any other way except through that help. Genuine relationships can involve financial requests too, of course, which is why the pattern itself matters more than any isolated ask viewed alone.

Reluctance to video call, inconsistent details about work or location, and profile photos that reverse search to unrelated sources are all worth checking calmly rather than dismissing out of hand, especially once actual money enters the conversation at any point, since financial requests are usually the moment where the pattern becomes impossible to explain away.
