A Weekly Claim Checking Challenge

Launch library · evergreen read

Set aside one claim each week, sourced from anywhere at all, conversation, a message, something read online in passing, and give it a full, unhurried check: trace its origin, look for corroboration, and note any caveats the original framing conveniently left out along the way, however small those caveats might initially seem.

Writing up the process itself, not just the final conclusion, is where the real learning genuinely happens over time. Noting which step took longest or felt least certain highlights exactly which verification skill most needs more deliberate practice, rather than treating all forms of checking as equally straightforward or equally quick to complete.

Over a few months, a weekly habit like this builds a working sense of which claims tend to hold up under real scrutiny and which categories, statistics, quotes, viral images, most often need the very closest look before being trusted and passed along any further.
